Photo: Ives Hall East
The west side of this site was formerly occupied by James Law Hall of the School of Veterinary Medicine. The C-plan forms a courtyard with old Moore Laboratory. Ives is connected to old Moore Lab by an open loggia with a closed passage above. Ives is designed in a stripped Collegiate Gothic style employing only the gray-brown stone facing and creamy limestone window frames of traditional Collegiate Gothic. Ives is a low, horizontal building with a flat roof. Windows provide vertical accent, with their frames connecting stacks of windows. The mullions are aluminum. All entrances are dressed in mauve Vermont marble on the interior. Halls are lined in rectangular, yellow glazed tile. The library is the most notable interior space. Its glass and aluminum framed wall partitions provide enclosure, while giving a visual sense of openness.
