Similar to Roberts, E Roberts, Caldwell, and (old) Comstock of the Ag Quad, and Rice Hall in this area, Fernow consists of a simple rectangle, with four bays on either side of a nine-bay projecting block. The tops of the basement windows are topped in white granite, as this stone is used again as a first floor belt-course, and in the lintels above in the first floor bays in the central block. The wall surfaces are coursed brick, with narrow engaged piers between the bays on the central block. The windows on either side of this block are single bay, double-hung sash, while the double-hung sash in the central block are arranged in a tryptich pattern, separated by brick piers. Above the second floor on this central block are paired brackets, supporting a slate hip roof, with three dormers on the central block, as well as on the side blocks on both the north and south facades. There are three dormers each on the east and west roofs.
